Hello Nicholas, thanks for sharing your perspective. I was going to leave it there as I am actually inclined to agree with your take on the overuse of the term and the subject matter. Likewise, indeed I also believe people wrongly label others with the term when it is not psychologically diagnosed. This is wrong, and further — unkind when people are on the receiving end of it.

However, I have two points. Firstly, that Medium is an open platform where people have the freedom to write about what they wish. Second, that the psychological definition is not so subtle at all, and the incidence of actual narcissists that could be diagnosed is not rare — but rather that most fall under the radar and go undiagnosed because true narcissists would never volunteer to go to therapy and receive a diagnosis.
